On September 20, West Coast Cultural Lab joined Word Vancouver, Western Canada’s largest free literary festival, with our Community Art Jam. We’re so grateful for the chance to connect with so many interesting, beautiful, and mindful souls.

At our table, visitors discovered:
- Words Exchange – Local poets generously contributed their work, and festival-goers were invited to take a poem home and type a poem/letter/words to exchange with a stranger on our vintage typewriter. For some, it was their very first time trying a typewriter; for others, it brought back memories of school classes or typewriters passed down from grandparents.
- Collective Story – One word at a time, participants built six unique stories together. Some read like poems, some like tales, and some made little sense at all — and that was the joy. The unexpected became the surprise gift of collaboration.
- Vancouver on Ink – Many visitors asked for a copy of our pilot issue. With only one final copy left on hand, we reminded everyone that the digital edition is available at vancouveronink.ca.
Throughout the day we met writers, readers, and neighbours who shared their passion for words and community. The conversations reminded us why West Coast Cultural Lab exists — to bridge art, technology, and generations in meaningful ways.
We are grateful to the Word Vancouver team, staff, and volunteers, and to all the poets and community members who made this Community Art Jam so special.
