On May 23, 2026, we host the Vancouver premiere of Paws Land (毛家) at The Cinematheque. Paws Land (毛家) was filmed between 2019 and 2023. Director Cheuk-man Au follows an animal rescue group on the front lines, not just the animals they save, but the people making difficult decisions with limited resources and uncertain outcomes. It is a film about humanity, about every decision changing a life.
It reveals something quietly powerful about the unseen stories in this city.

What They Said About Paws Land
Accessible and sincere.
You feel its weight and warmth immediately. It tells you nothing is easy, but you must keep going.
不奧澀不小眾,很容易就看進去了,也很容易感受到它的重量及善意,它告訴你一切不容易但仍須前行。
– Philip Yung 翁子光
Hong Kong Film Award, Best Screenplay, Port of Call
There is humanity and ugliness both, and rescue moments that keep you on edge. Beyond being a good watch, this was not easy to make. I hope more people get to see it and support local documentary filmmaking.
有充滿人性光輝亦有醜惡嘅部分,亦有緊張刺激嘅拯救行動。套戲除咗好睇,仲一啲都唔易拍,希望多啲朋友睇到呢套戲,支持吓本地紀錄片。
– Ho Cheuk-Tin 何爵天
Hong Kong Film Award, Best New Director, The Sparring Partner
Laughter through tears, love through tears, and something deeper beneath. Every animal comes into this world with a purpose, carrying lessons for us. If you learn them, they are the most beautiful gift of this lifetime.
笑中有淚,淚中有愛,愛中亦有感慨。我相信每隻動物來到世上係有個使命,係帶俾我哋人類一啲學習課題,呢啲學習課題,如果你懂得了,就係今世你得到嘅最美麗的禮物。

This is beyond a movie screening. The Paws Land Community Series brings together community stories and artwork into an afternoon. We open with an original song playlist written by the community for their animals, followed by a mini film festival of visual letters, then the Vancouver premiere screening of Paws Land.
All attendees receive a free copy of Vancouver On Ink Paws Land Special Edition, featuring local stories and artwork inspired by animals in our neighbourhood.
Want to be part of the programme?
We have an open call for the mini film festival and the opening playlist. Details here.
