West Coast Mini Film Festival returns for its second edition as part of West Coast Cultural Lab’s first anniversary celebration.

Cinema has the power to transport us into different lives, perspectives, and experiences. Through stories, we laugh, reflect, question, and sometimes discover pieces of ourselves in unexpected places.

This year, we invite audiences to spend an afternoon exploring themes of companionship, care, resilience, and the connections that shape our lives. Alongside a curated program of short films from around the world, the festival will feature a special presentation of The Manor 山莊日記, a heartfelt feature film inspired by true stories and featuring actors with intellectual disabilities and cerebral palsy.

About the Festival

West Coast Mini Film Festival is more than a short film showcase. Each time, we curate a collection of international short films alongside a feature presentation, bringing audiences on a journey through different voices, cultures, and perspectives.

Rather than focusing on production scale or industry recognition, we look for stories that leave audiences with something to think about, whether through humour, compassion, curiosity, or reflection.

Every screening is designed as a shared community experience, where films become the starting point for conversation, connection, and positive action.

2026 Theme

This year’s festival welcomes short films exploring themes such as:

  • Companionship
  • Community and belonging
  • Life, loss, and resilience

While some stories may touch on difficult subjects, we encourage works that approach them with warmth, humour, creativity, and honesty.

Animation, live action, documentary, experimental, and hybrid works are all welcome.

Film submissions are currently open through FilmFreeway until July 15, 2026.
Selected films will be announced in July 30, 2026.

Feature Film Showcase

This year’s feature presentation is The Manor, a moving film inspired by true stories and featuring actors with disabilities.

Through humour, warmth, and humanity, the film explores dignity, relationships, and the challenges people face in everyday life.

We selected this film because it reflects many of the values we hope to foster through West Coast Cultural Lab: inclusion, empathy, creativity, and meaningful human connection.

More Than a Screening

West Coast Mini Film Festival is not only about watching films.

We hope to create a welcoming space where filmmakers, artists, writers, animal lovers, community organizers, and curious humans can meet one another, exchange ideas, and discover unexpected connections.

Whether you are attending as a filmmaker, audience, volunteer, or first-time visitor, we invite you to say hi and connect with others who share similar interests and values.

After all, meaningful things often begin with a conversation. You never know where it might lead.
