On May 23, 2026, we host the Vancouver premiere of Paws Land (毛家) at The Cinematheque. Paws Land (毛家) was filmed between 2019 and 2023. Director Cheuk-man Au follows an animal rescue group on the front lines, not just the animals they save, but the people making difficult decisions with limited resources and uncertain outcomes. It is a film about humanity, about every decision changing a life.
It reveals something quietly powerful about the unseen stories in this city.
What They Said About Paws Land
Accessible and sincere.
You feel its weight and warmth immediately. It tells you nothing is easy, but you must keep going.
– Philip Yung
Hong Kong Film Award, Best Screenplay, Port of Call
There is humanity and ugliness both, and rescue moments that keep you on edge. Beyond being a good watch, this was not easy to make. I hope more people get to see it and support local documentary filmmaking.
– Ho Cheuk-Tin
Hong Kong Film Award, Best New Director, The Sparring Partner
Laughter through tears, love through tears, and something deeper beneath. Every animal comes into this world with a purpose, carrying lessons for us. If you learn them, they are the most beautiful gift of this lifetime.
