Introducing Our Artist in Residence 2027

West Coast Cultural Lab is excited to welcome Dr. Pak Lun (Alan) Fung as our Artist in Residence for 2027.

Dr. Alan Fung is a Finland-based interdisciplinary artist and researcher whose creative practice includes theatre, performance, installation and experiments that transform data into artistic experiences.

Our relationship with Dr. Alan Fung began through theatre collaboration in 2012. Since then, we have continued to follow the many directions of his creative practice and explore the connections between art, science, technology and the environment.

Alongside his artistic work, Dr. Alan Fung’s research spans machine learning, urban climate analysis and air quality modelling. Rather than keeping this knowledge within academic spaces, he is interested in how environmental data can become visual, physical and emotional, giving people new ways to understand the places where they live.

Dr. Alan Fung has also been a valued contributor to West Coast Cultural Lab, sharing sustainability ideas and contributing writing to Vancouver On Ink.

The Invisible City

Throughout 2027, Dr. Alan Fung will collaborate with West Coast Cultural Lab through knowledge exchange, creative experiments and conversations with artists and community members.

This residency will contribute to the development of The Invisible City, our interdisciplinary art and cultural project exploring the environmental systems, data and unseen forces that shape urban life.

We hope the residency will create opportunities for artists from different disciplines to meet, experiment and develop new work together.

More details about The Invisible City, artist participation and public activities will be announced as the project develops.
